Tom Gates is a middle schooler who likes Rock music caramel wafers and annoying his grumpy sister Delia.

Tom’s best friend Derek has a dog called Rooster that chews everything up, Derek thinks it’s a good idea to enter Rooster into the local dog competition. Planning goes well brushing Rooster, bathing Rooster and even fluffing Rooster up. Until Derek’s Dad(MR Fingle) forgets Rooster is going to the dog competition in a few hours and lets Rooster go outside into the rain and mud. That’s the least of Tom’s problems, when Tom is trying to find his Dad to give him his birthday wish list he spots a glittering shine coming from his Dad’s bedroom; as he is investigating Tom finds an embarrassing dino costume as well as some glittering boots(embarrassing). Even worse when Tom goes to confront his dad about the costume he finds a Dino village van outside. Tom goes nuts because he can’t find his Dad. Apparently according to Delia Tom’s dad is going to be the dj at Tom’s disco at school next week. Read the book to find out what happens.
