A tree has crashed on the Kirrin Cottage and the five’s bedroom is ruined. So the five go to Smuggler’s Top, Julian and dick’s friend Sooty’s house. Sooty is a cheeky tan boy who works with coal and always covered in soot that’s how he got the name sooty. Smuggler’s Top is an old house and is full of secret passages. Soon after  exploring the tunnels Uncle Quentin and Sooty disappear. What might have happened to them? To find out, read the book.
